Moore and Bruggink, Inc. Partners with The City of Grandville on The Clean Water Treatment Plant Expansion

Grandville, MI, July 15, 2009 Moore and Bruggink, Inc., a consulting engineering firm located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is partnering with the City of Grandville, Michigan to expand their Clean Water Treatment Plant. Currently, the plant processes approximately 4.4 million gallons of waste water per day, and sends another 1.5 million gallons to the Wyoming Clean Water Plant. The expansion of the plant will allow it to process an average of 10 million gallons per day, and effectively serve the City of Grandville and its customer communities for the next 20 years.  “The City’s Clean Water Treatment Plant is currently running at its maximum capacity, and this expansion will assure that we will continue to meet our permit requirements as the City of Grandville and the surrounding customer communities have future growth” said Todd Wibright, City of Grandville Clean Water Plant Superintendent.

The plant expansion entails new headworks facilities for screening waste water and processing grit as well as new primary clarifiers, aeration tanks, and final clarifiers for treating waste water. The expansion will also include a new egg shaped anaerobic digester for treating sludge from the plant. This digester will produce bio-gas which will be captured and re-used in a cogeneration facility to create power and heat to run the process. “This is an exciting project, because as part of the expansion of the plant, we will be creating “green” power from bio-gas that would have otherwise been incinerated and put into the atmosphere” said Brian Hannon, P.E. a project engineer from Moore and Bruggink.

This is Moore and Bruggink’s third major wastewater treatment plant project in the last three years. In the last two years, they have completed an expansion design on the Village of Sparta Wastewater Treatment Plant and the City of Zeeland’s Clean Water Plant. Both projects are currently in construction.
